Heavy equipment on TPM titanium mining site near Okefenokee Swamp 2019-10-05

Update 2019-10-10: Looking west from the Cherokee of Georgia Tribal Grounds along GA 94 past sawmill to equipment on mine site, with Okefenokee Swamp beyond. And a Bill of Rights for Nature.

This time it’s true: there is heavy equipment on site Twin Pines Minerals proposes for titanium mining near the Okefenokee Swamp, as of yesterday. It looks like dredging equipment similar to what we saw a few minutes earlier at the Chemours North Maxville Mine in Baker County, Florida. People more familiar with mining equipment, what do you think?

For context, this picture is looking east along GA 94 towards St. George:

This equipment is at about 30.52081, -82.1261, on a dirt road called T-Model north off of GA 94.

That’s about 5.7 miles west of St. George, or less than 3 miles east of the River Styx, and about 6.6 miles east of Moniac.

You can still send comments to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and GA-EPD about this mining proposal. And questions, such as what oversight prevents TPM from conducting preliminary digs even though they have no permit?

    Their going to ruin that section of the swamp and uproot it’s inhabitants , in the name of greed .
    Then leave it a mess like nahunta .
    You will never get the beauty back , shame on you for letting this happen .

      Elizabeth, there are many of us working hard to not let this happen.
      Please join us in making comments to the Army Corps of Engineers. Let them know what happened in Nahunta! Write to your State and Federal representatives and senators. Let them know what happened in Nahunta and that you don’t want it to happen again, especially so close to the Refuge.
