And no toll road coming right up to the Suwannee River from the south, not even if it’s called “Northern Turnpike Connector.” Yes, the day after the Madison, FL, Suncoast Connector meeting, there’s a meeting in Fanning Springs, FL, about the Northern Turnpike Connector. Why Fanning Springs? Because their “study areas” overlap, both including Levy and Citrus Counties.

Any of these toll road boondoggles would waste money that should go to water quality testing and eco-tourism, not to mention fixing fertilizer nitrates leaching into our springs and rivers.

What: Sierra Club and Florida Conservation Voters has partnered with 70+ organizations, including Suwannee Riverkeeper, to form the No Roads To Ruin Coalition. This consortium of environmental advocacy organizations, small businesses, community and sportsmen groups strongly oppose the three proposed toll roads. We must mobilize as many people as possible to turn out in opposition.

This meeting is actually organized by M-CORES, “Multi-use Corridors of Regional Economic Significance”, promoters of the toll road boondoggle. The M-CORES meeting starts at 9:30 AM, with Public Comment at 4PM, according to their agenda.
You’ll notice nothing on their agenda about a no-build option, because they don’t have one. Maybe you’d like to suggest they should not build it.

Florida Land Sales Co is selling 14 lots ranging from 1.3 to 3.00 acres on the Withlacoochee river, north or Crystal River. It appears the acreage has not been developed residentially thus far and is being offered for residential and river access. My concern is that I have read (but not retained details) of the fight between Georgia and Florida concerning the Suwannee river, which feeds the Withlacoochee. If my perception is correct it appears the state of Georgia has won w federal suit allowing it to divert and retain additional water resources for development in Georgia, rendering flow to Florida insufficient to support the ecosystems feeding scalloping south of Apalachicola, and southern environs. Being said, may one consider the offering of riverfront property on the WITH a firs sale, considering the river may soon be denied the water that supports these ecosystems? Any information would be appreciated. Who wants to buy a rives property that will become a dry river bed?
Please allow me to clear up some confusion.
The Withlacoochee (South) River flows into the Gulf near Crystal River.
The Suwannee River flows into the Gulf north of Cedar Key.
The Withlacoochee (North) River flows into the Suwannee River.
The famous Georgia-Florida water lawsuit has nothing to do with the Suwannee River.
That’s about the Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers that flow into the Apalachicola River,
which flows into the Gulf many miles west of the Suwannee River.
