Dear Lowndes County Commissioners,

WWALS is a Non-Profit Advocacy Organization working for watershed conservation of the Willacoochee, Withlacoochee, Alapaha, and Little River Systems watershed in south Georgia and north Florida through awareness, environmental monitoring, and citizen advocacy.

It has come to our attention that the Lowndes County Commission is considering closing Old State Road (County Road 16) to the Alapaha River.

The Alapaha River has been described as

“jungle-like in its remoteness and luxurious with exotic vegetation, the dark reddishbrown waters of the Alapaha wind through a swampy wonderland teeming with wildlife”

and Old State Road is the only access to this natural resource in Lowndes County. The road is used by many for access to the river for swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.

Therefore, the WWALS Watershed Coalition, respectfully asks that Old State Road (County Road 16) be kept open to the Alapaha River.

Respectfully,
[signed]
Dave Hetzel
President WWALS
