Clean WIthlacoochee River 2023-04-20

Update 2023-04-29: Nankin filthy, Withlacoochee River 2023-04-27.

WWALS tests were clean for Thursday on the Little, Withlacoochee, and Alapaha Rivers.

Rain is predicted, but not much.

No new sewage spills have been reported in the Suwannee River Basin in Georgia or Florida.

Happy boating, swimming, and fishing this weekend!

The most recent results we have from Valdosta are for Monday upstream and Wednesday week before last downstream. They generally concur with WWALS results.

However, Valdosta got 645 cfu/100 mL E. coli at US 41 for Monday, which is above the 410 one-time limit. It is not obvious why, since there was no significant rain. Whatever it was, it was gone by the time of the WWALS Thursday test.

Thanks to WWALS tester Cindy Vedas for her three Thursday Withlacoochee River sites: Franklinville, Staten Road, and US 41, plus her new site on Crawford Branch @ Skipper Bridge Road. Crawford Branch runs into the Withlacoochee River immediately downstream of Skipper Bridge.

Thanks to Jacob and Michael Bachrach for their results for Troupville Boat Ramp on the Little River and Nankin and State Line Boat Ramps on the Withlacoochee River.

Thanks to Kimberly Tanner for her two Alapaha River test sites: Naylor Park Beach and Lakeland Boat Ramp. And thanks to the Jones family for helping her again.

Thanks to Amy Meyers and Will Hart for their results for Thursday a week ago at Knights Ferry Boat Ramp and Sullivan Launch on the Withlacoochee River.

Thanks to Suzy Hall for herding the testing cats, and to Gretchen Quarterman for training them and delivering supplies.

I’ve marked green all the WWALS “beaches” for which we have recent data, on Swim Guide
