Still clean Withlacoochee River 2020-12-12

Update 2020-12-19: Bad Knights Ferry Thursday, Withlacoochee River 2020-12-17.

Update 2020-12-15: Big sewage spill, Quitman, GA, also bad downstream previous week, Withlacoochee River 2020-12-09.

As near as we can tell, the Withlacoochee River was still clean this weekend. With very little rain, it will probably stay that way for awhile.

FDEP today posted results for Thursday from Madison Health that corroborated the Duncans’ WWALS clean results for that day and extended the clean bill of health for the Withlacoochee River into Florida as far as FL 6.

For Sunday, WWALS testers Trudy and Conn Cole got plenty clean results for the Little River at GA 76 (Cook County Boat Ramp) and for the Withlacoochee River at US 84, which is downstream from the Monday Adel sewage spill.

Not so clean for Okapilco Creek at US 84.

[866 cfu/100 mL, Okapilco Creek @ US 84]

And the usual nasty for Crooked Creek at Devane Road.

However, there has been almost no rain, yet the rivers are still flowing pretty high, so chances are the Crooked Creek unpleasantness has been diluted by Okapilco Creek flow, and the Okapilco Creek uncleanness has been diluted by Withlacoochee River flow.

Since we have no evidence to the contrary, all WWALS “beaches” on the Little and Withlacoochee Rivers remain green on Swim Guide.
